Description:

Graduates will demonstrate basic knowledge as required of beginning nursing assistant practitioners. Program Description: This course prepares the learner for taking the state examination to become a certified nursing assistant. The Arizona State Board of Nursing requires evidence of citizenship or nationality for state certification (CNA). Fingerprints needed to take the licensure exam.

B. Other departmental requirements: In order to be eligible to apply for the AWC Nursing Assistant Program, the student must have the following:

  • Reading score of 60 or above on the Computerize Placement Test (CPT-R)
  • Current CPR certification, Professional Rescuer or HealthCare Provider
  • Current Arizona DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card for Volunteer Health Science Student & Clinical Assistant Total credits required for certificate: 5

1) Selection Process:

  • Course seats will be filled based upon the order in which completed/valid applications are received.
  • All applicants will receive an email notification of their status via their Toro Email account within 4 college days of the application deadline.
  • The first 40 eligible applicants will be offered a seat in the course.
  • The next 10 eligible applicants will be offered to be alternates.
  • If an applicant declines or has not completed the admission requirements by the published deadline, the next applicant on the alternate list will be offered the seat.
  • Alternates must complete all admission requirements by the published deadline in order to be ensured a seat in the next semester.

2) Application Process:

  • Students are required to submit a completed application with supporting documentation before: -The second Thursday of April for Summer semester -The last Thursday of May for Fall semester -The first Thursday of November for Spring semester -The first Thursday of November for Parker program
  • An application is only valid for 1 semester. A waiting list is not maintained.

  • The following documentation must be attached to your Application form -CPT-R score (College printout, WebAdvisor not accepted) -CPR card, Health Care Provider or Professional Rescuer (Must be valid through completion of course.) -AZDPS Fingerprint Clearance Card (Must be valid through completion of course.) *Tuberculosis and drug screening information required to enter the program.
