3 Things You must know before You Choose a CNA School

If you are looking into the idea of becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant then it is important that you know what is required of you and what to expect.

The first thing that comes to mind is making sure that you have the right education and course requirements. There are many different schools and colleges available on the market, so how do we know which one is best for us?

There are three things we need to keep in mind when choosing a school: accreditation, curriculum, and cost. Accreditation ensures that the courses offered at these institutions meet certain standards of quality as well as provide students with legitimate transcripts. For those who want to work in hospitals or other healthcare facilities where their CNA certification will be legally recognized, it’s recommended that they seek out schools with this designation.

The curriculum in these programs should also be in line with the regulations set by the governing bodies in the states where they are enrolled.

Tuition fees are an extremely important aspect of this decision. It is important that you choose a college that is offering a reasonable tuition rate rather than being hit up for thousands of dollars to attend their institution. The cost of your education should be dependent on how much money you have to spend. There are many low-cost schools that offer affordable education programs, but it’s not recommended for people who want to get into high-paying careers or take advantage of specialized training.

South Carolina CNA Certification Requirements

South Carolina Bureau of Long Term Care and Behavioral Health Services requires the following to acquire certification:

  • Completion of a state-approved CNA training program

  • Schedule and pass the SC Nurse Aide exam administered through Pearson VUE

How to become CNA in South Carolina Without Any Nurse Aide Background

Without any background as a nurse aide, you will have to take the NNAAP exam for which you must first complete a 100-hour CNA program approved by the state.

Training includes classroom instructions and clinical practice. While training, you’ll be working under an NA instructor.

Most of the training programs in South Carolina take 6-12 weeks to complete after completing which you can then apply for the exams. The cost of both exams will cost you $101 if you are applying for the first time.

Successful completion of a CNAs training entails passing the CNA test. Once you have passed the exam, you will be certified to work in nursing care facilities.

If you pass both the exams (written and oral), your name will be added to the SCNAR. You should receive your new CNA card within 10 days after you pass the exam.
